Two Years Since Obadiah was Born and Died: More Thoughts on Grief
Today is the second birthday of my seventh child, Obadiah Malachi. It’s also the 2nd anniversary of his death. As I previously wrote, it was the most grievous day of my life.
The past two years have seemed to move in slow motion. Each day is a trial. Each day presses me in some way. What used to be easy is now hard. Some things that were once difficult are now much easier.

San Francisco is Completely Whacked
A friend sent me a link to photos from a January 2006 pro-life march in San Francisco, which shows, along with the accompanying photos and videos, the rabid nature of San Francisco’s pro-choice people. It was so bad, that the police were out in the hundreds to protect the pro-life crowd from attacks - and to keep the march going while pro-choice protesters made three not-so-valiant attempts to block it.
Is Sprint Nextel supporting Abortion-on-Demand?
I was recently forwarded this information that a group called Working Assets Wireless is allowing you to sign-up for a wireless plan that gives proceeds to Planned Parenthood, the single-most vocal supporter of abortion-on-demand (without apology) in America. Working Assets Wireless, a company from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, may just be some local outfit owned by pro-abortion advocates trying to whip up cash for their financially-strapped charity, but I really question the involvement of Sprint Nextel Communications in this cesspool.
Top Ten Ways to Use your Upcoming Vote to Punish your Children
I wrote this for the 2000 year elections, but considering all the hoopla about the 2008 Presidential race already under way, I thought it appropriate to share these now. I remain hopeful that someone somewhere might benefit from it, despite a decade of proof to the contrary.
1. Always view elections in term of the immediate present. After all, you are the one who has to live with who you vote for, right? Don’t let those “long-term vision” freaks get to you. The next four years is probably going to be the best four years of your life, and you don’t want to go through them knowing you supported a LOSER, do you?
My Lack of a Problem with G.K. Chesterton
Dr. George Grant recently posted the following story on his blog. On the off-chance you don’t visit his blog and read it directly, I’ll repost it here, but I encourage you to subscribe to his blog at your next convenience.
My friend James Sauer writes, “I’ve got a problem with Chesterton. The problem is that I think he is a wonderful, wise, witty, and pious man; after reading his works, I never leave the page without feeling edified.”
So, “Why is that a problem?” you just might ask.
Enthusiasm
Saw this great quote at WorkHappy.Net, by a man named Charles Kingsley:
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.”
I didn’t know who Charles Kingsley was so I went to Wikipedia and discovered he was an English novelist who wrote the novel Westward Ho! He died in 1875 so I thought that made the quote even more interesting. Apparently, there was enough people back during the 1800’s who were trying to keep up with the Jones’, that Kingsley felt the need to make this distinction about the proper direction to take in life. This was an attempt on his part to help his fellow man.
Search for Significance Seminar
If you’ve been thinking about the new year and some of those resolutions you’ve made, and if you live in the Brevard County area, what about considering your spiritual walk? If you are a Christian or read the Bible for inspiration, I can’t think of a better way to start the year out right then to attend a Search for Significance Seminar.
The Silence of God
I’ve been listening to Andrew Peterson lately and the song “The Silence of God” has really struck me as such a wonderful testimony to the way God interacts with his people. I had a friend lean over to me suddenly in a group of people and say, “What if there is no answer? What if God has said all he is going to say in his Word?”. How right. At some point, you stop searching for answers, you stop seeking for some great revelation, you stop waiting for the other shoe to drop. Your faith is that God alone is sufficient to provide. Is your faith going to carry you - or leave you wanting?
Church Signs
It drives me nuts everytime I see a church sign with those cutsey sayings posted on them. One in Palm Bay today says “Praise without ceasing”. The Bible verse actually says “Pray without ceasing” which is a command to Christians. But the church changed it. Who even knows what it is supposed to mean. Is it still a command to Christians? Is it an advertisement that their church (a charasmatic church) is doing just that during their worship services?
Worse is when I see those little clever sayings like “Forbidden fruit creates many jams”. Ugh. Some of them are flat out pleas for people, apparently anyone, to come and fill the pews. “Try our Sundays. They are better than Baskin-Robbins”.

I’m writing to express my concern over your absence at church. Please understand that I am writing out of love and concern for you and your family. I also want you to know that I am writing this on my own accord. It is only my idea, and I have not been encouraged or requested to do so by any other persons.
